What difference will my $20 make? Am I really helping someone?
These doubts arise in our mind when we donate to a charity or try to help someone. Often times, many of us wonder if we are making a dent and change in somebody’s life. Every thought, every prayer, every smile makes a difference. As the starfish story says, there might be thousands of them around, but you can still make a difference to one. We can all bring light into someone’s life, one step at a time.
On this Thanksgiving Day, I am grateful for my existence. Many people have supported me in my life’s journey, be it my mother who donated one of her kidneys giving me a second chance at life or my friend who has lent her shoulder for me in moments of need. Having want to pay it forward has steered me to volunteer for various organizations related to health and education. Being a volunteer for the past fifteen years has made me realize that every penny counts, every smile matters, every prayer helps and every thought cheers. Paying it forward need not necessarily be big, just a simple random act of kindness will make a difference in someone’s life and create an avalanche of kindness when they pay it forward. Especially in these trying times.
